The Uncle Remus Foundation is named in honor of entrepreneurs and philanthropists Gus W. Rickette and Mary F. Rickette, founders of Uncle Remus Saucy Fried Chicken restaurants in Chicago, IL. The Rickette’s philosophy is that:
- local businesses strengthen neighborhoods
- local businesses provide employment for its residents
- helping other businesses and giving back to community is key to success
- no one should go hungry or be denied food
